What to expect
Paint your own Pottery
The Splash of Colour shelves are filled with a fantastic choice of pottery for you to paint… whether it’s something functional or frivolous!
When you arrive we will run through the basics for you, let you choose your pottery and give you more detailed instructions about how to get the best results from your pottery painting. There are lots of different ways to approach painting your pottery and often the simplest ideas are the most successful. We have painted sample pieces to inspire you, stencils to help with your designs, shaped sponges and lots of other ideas to help you create your masterpiece.
When you have finished your pottery painting we will give you a receipt and your pieces will be ready to collect a week later after it has been dip-glazed and fired in one of our three kilns. The firing process takes 26-30 hours as your pottery is fired to over 1000 degrees! Once firing is finished and the kiln is cool enough we check your pottery and wrap it up ready for you to collect.
Our studio fee is £3.50 per painter. You pay for the pottery you choose to paint in addition to the studio fee. Pottery prices start at £4.50, mid-range pieces (mugs/bowls/side plates) are £10.50 upwards.
We also run taster sessions on the Potter’s Wheel – a chance to throw your own pot with one-to-one tuition. Booking is essential for one of these sessions. Click here for more information on creating your own pottery.
